10,03,2009 |
| Why You Are Probably Marketing To The Wrong Demographic. |
It has been perviously believed by many marketer that social networking website such as Facebook and Myspace have a very low demographic age, a lot believe Myspace to be 16 year olds and Facebook to mainly consist of 22 year olds.
Well, according to the new report from comScore, it's suggests that over 44% of MySapce users and 50% of american Facebook users are actually over the age of 35 years old. This is huge demographic shift as to what was previously believed. Most marketers have been marketing to the late teens early twenties, when really they should be marketing to an audience in the 35 - 44 age range.
What this info tells us is that yes, you can still market to the younger demographic, but you now have a much better chance of promoting a whole new range of products and services. Facebook also claim that it's fastest growing age group is 55+. With such a diverse marketing demographic, both Facebook and Myspace are giving all of the internet marketers a chance to make some easy cash. Like with all things, if your the first to start marketing to the older age group, you'll be the one one to clean up.
If you like the sound of getting stuck into the over 50's market then Facebook and Myspace would be a great place to start. However, both of these social networking websites are not that marketing friendly. The quickest and easiest way of marketing is banner advertising and PPC ads, but saying that, you will get much better results if you plan on actively engaging your target audience.
